According to the latest official data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), as reported in the Kenya Poverty Report, Nairobi City County has an overall poverty headcount rate of 16.5%.

With Nairobi's population estimated at between 4.4 million and 5 million people, this poverty rate translates to approximately 725,000 to 825,000 people living below the official national poverty line in the county.

Why we are building

As Nairobi's population continues to grow, there is a need to adopt new and ambitious strategies for job creation. Nairobi's population is expected to continue increasing significantly in the coming years. This is why we are developing the Nairobi Beyond 2040 Project — a long-term development model designed to create the infrastructure, industries, and economic opportunities needed to provide new jobs for Nairobi's growing population.

Four 12-story buildings in every sub-county

The Tree Food System is developing a platform to generate the funding required to construct four 12-story, high-end buildings in each sub-county of Nairobi. Each building will accommodate different industries and businesses, including leather and garment manufacturing, retail supermarkets, hospitality, pharmaceuticals, banking, and other productive enterprises, creating employment opportunities closer to local communities.

Work closer to home

As Nairobi's population grows, there is a critical need to bring employment opportunities closer to where people live. Our goal is to help residents work within or near their own sub-county, reducing the need for long daily commutes and helping to lower the cost of transportation.

We plan to establish a total of 68 business centers across Nairobi County. To ensure equitable distribution and local accessibility, 4 business centers will be constructed in each of Nairobi's 17 sub-counties.

Each business center will accommodate the following:
