The circular economy

Keeping value circulating inside the communities that create it.

In a circular local economy, money earned in a community is spent and re-spent in that same community, instead of leaving it right away. Each shilling passes through many hands: the worker, the shop, the supplier, the bank, and back to the worker.

01

Make locally

Leather and garment manufacturing inside the business centers means products begin their journey close to home, and the skills and wages stay in the neighbourhood.

02

Sell locally

Supermarkets, clothing and shoe outlets, a restaurant and a pharmacy in the same building give residents a reason to spend near where they live.

03

Save and lend locally

Microfinance banks in each center keep savings and small loans connected to the people and businesses around them.

04

Work locally

Shorter commutes mean more of each wage stays in the household. The more of these links we build in one place, the longer money stays at work in that sub-county.
